The Senior Division of Williamson County Parks and Recreation is pleased to host the Lifestyle Enrichment Series again starting September 14, 2010. This series provides education sessions, for Seniors 55 and up, that are informative and will enhance healthy lifestyle choices. These free workshops, presented by healthcare professionals, offer seniors an opportunity to gain valuable information on improving their overall quality of life. The Lifestyle Enrichment Series will be offered September 14-November 4, at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, located at 2909 Commonwealth Drive, and the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.

 
Participants are welcome to join the workshops series at any time and will receive a punch card to be marked for each workshop attended. Participants who attend 10 or more workshops will be Gold Star Enrichment Members and will be awarded a 10 visit pass to attend any Aquamotion, Power Tools, or Zumba Gold fitness class at the Longview Recreation Center or the Franklin Recreation Complex. Participants who attend 8 workshops will be Silver Star Enrichment Members and will be awarded a 5 visit pass to attend any of the above fitness classes at either of the above listed facilities.

SEASONAL CROCHET
This class is for anyone interested in crocheting fun, seasonal items, and all skill levels are welcome! We will be creating one of three items, based on skill. Beginners will be crocheting spider coasters-great for the upcoming spooky holiday! Those with some knowledge of crochet will be creating pumpkin pot holders, great for the whole fall season. Advanced crocheters will be making a Halloween table topper with cat motifs! This class for teens and adults will meet on Thursdays, September 2 and 9 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40. JEWELRY FUNDAMENTALS
Create fashionable jewelry at a fraction of retail prices! This class for teens and adults will teach you to use jewelry tools with beads, wire and jewelry pins to create stylish costume jewelry. The possibilities are endless with the skills you will learn in this fun and exciting class! This class will meet on Monday, September 13 from 6-9 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $20, and the supply fee is $8. KNITTING CRAZE
Whether you are a knitting novice or a beginner, this class is for you! Now is the time to learn a new craft that you can use during the fall months-knitting! In this beginner’s class, you will learn the basic stitches, how to shop for yarn and needles and how to read and interpret those mysterious knitting patterns. Suggested projects include a small purse, scarf, hat or socks. There are so many choices for you to pick from! Each student is encouraged to shop around for pattern ideas before choosing their project, but please do not purchase any supplies before the first class! This class for teens and adults will meet on Mondays, September 13, 20 and 27 from 8:30-10 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40. SEASONAL KNITTING
In this class, we will be knitting a trick-or-treat bag – just in time for Halloween! No matter what your knitting level, there is a project for you! Beginners
will learn how to knit and do color striping; those with some level of knitting experience will be working with fun fur; and for those with more advanced knitting skills, learn to read from a chart and work an intarsia pumpkin design. This class for teens and adults will meet on Thursdays, September 16 and 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The class fee is $40. Didn’t quite finish your project from this month’s Knitting Craze, Seasonal Knitting or Seasonal Crochet class? STICKY FINGERS PRESCHOOL CLUB TOO!
The “Sticky Fingers Preschool Club” is a new program for children ages 3-6 (must be potty trained) at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. “Sticky Fingers” is a fun place to come and explore a variety of crafting experiences. A different theme, with coordinating activities using letters, shapes, numbers and colors will be offered each month. “Sticky Fingers” provides your child with a creative supplement to preschool by enhancing fine motor and developmental skills necessary to begin school. The instructor, Deborah Nelson, has 13 years of experience as an art instructor. Registration has begun!! Session #1 will be held on Mondays, September 13, 20, and 27 from 8:30 –10 a.m., and the cost is $18 for 3 classes. Session #2 will be held Wednesdays, September 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 8:30 – 10 a.m., and the cost is $24 for 4 classes. Registration is required, and space is limited. Registration is still underway for Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s third annual Mighty Tikes Triathlon at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, and is for kids ages 3-6 years old. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $7 per entry.
 
Cheer on your favorite pint-sized triathlete as they take on our fun-filled course. Kids will start off peddling their way through the bike course, then transition to the “need for speed” running portion and will conclude their triathlon with a “swim”, or dash through sprinklers as they head to the finish line to receive their medal. Each participant is required to bring a bike, or tricycle, and helmet for this event. Bikes must be 16 inches or under. Each triathlete will receive an official Mighty Tikes triathlon t-shirt and medal! Plus, the Spring Hill Police Department will have officers at the event to promote and demonstrate proper bike safety for the participants!
 
Space is limited. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until full. The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a free boot camp class on Friday, August 27 from 5:30-6:15 a.m. at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. Join us for this extreme workout class and sample what this ongoing Health and Wellness program is all about. “Parris Island” Boot Camp is an exercise class based on the calisthenics you would experience as a recruit at the Parris Island, Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina. It’s an intense routine that targets both upper and lower body muscle groups. Every exercise is done according to a specific cadence, so you have built-in accountability that results in a very challenging and rewarding exercise session. The instructor is Bruce Gust, a nine year veteran of the USMC. This class requires pre-registration and space may be limited.
